About Us

The Makerspace initiative includes the ‘Kadayam S. Srinivasan’ and ‘Harivallabh Nagar’ Micro-Factories, the Tinkerers Lab, the Deepak and Maya Satwalekar Design and Making Lab,(DMSL) and the Batch of 1980 Design and Making Lab. DMSL Lab is a crucial part of the Institute’s broader Makerspace program, aimed at providing first-year students with a comprehensive education through hands-on learning that enhances and supports theoretical concepts. This pioneering initiative at the Institute will prepare students to tackle and overcome challenges encountered in real-world industrial environments through a multidisciplinary approach. Equipped with advanced tools and over 250 workstations, this modern facility will be accessible to nearly 1,400 first-year engineering students. It will educate them in the latest design and manufacturing practices found in real-world industrial settings. Essentially, the inquisitive and talented students of IIT Bombay will gain exposure to cutting-edge design and manufacturing techniques at the very start of their academic careers.
